Certification of your project verifies its green features and formally recognizes its green achievements.

There are many certification programs available. Each has its own particular focus and criteria, but all require that a third-party verifier confirms that each of the requirements has been met by the project team. Some programs are more demanding than others, but they all provide recognized levels of certification by which different projects can be compared.

VELOCIPEDE has certified numerous projects under the various programs. We know the nuances of each of the requirements and lead the project team in the certification effort.

Passive House

Passive House (also known as Passivhaus) certification is a global standard for rating low-energy buildings. Passivhaus buildings are considered to have the lowest energy consumption in the world. Reducing usage to Passivhaus levels normally requires a compact form, southern solar exposure, superinsulation, and triple-glazed windows. Mechanical equipment typically includes a heat recovery ventilator and a solar hot water system. Upon completion, a Passivhaus must undergo third-party testing before being certified.

When requested by the client, our team will take a project from design through certification, exploring design options, running the calculations, observing construction, and submitting the project for certification. Our experience with this demanding standard allows us to expeditiously arrive at a design that can meet obtain certification.

Built Green

VELOCIPEDE architects inc is a member of BUILT GREEN, a local environmental rating system for residential building. After undergoing a third-party certification process, projects receive a 3-, 4-, or 5-star rating from the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. BUILT GREEN features a checklist that emphasizes site and water protection, energy efficiency, health and air quality, materials efficiency, and environmentally responsible home ownership.

We typically provide BUILT GREEN-quality design services to all our residential clients. Since green design is inherent in VELOCIPEDE's process, we can readily complete the checklist for our clients.

LEED

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a national standard for rating high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED recognition is obtained by formal application to the U.S. Green Building Council, who verifies the project's conformance with rigorous criteria and then awards a rating based on the number of points achieved. When requested by the client, our project team uses LEED to formally assess building performance and meet sustainability goals.

The principal of VELOCIPEDE is a LEED Accredited Professional, as established by the LEED Professional Accreditation exam. The USGBC recognizes experienced building industry practitioners nationwide who have demonstrated their knowledge of integrated design and their capacity to facilitate the LEED certification process.
