Kushner / Klem Cabin
This all seasons vacation cabin on a bluff over the Wenatchee River near Leavenworth, Washington is set in a forest grove off a little used country road.

At one end of the cabin is the great room, a combined living room, dining room, and kitchen with a vaulted ceiling. The middle section contains the stair, a bedroom, and a recessed porch with a children's sleeping loft above that overlooks the great room. The other end houses the master bedroom, a bathroom, a mud room with laundry, and a deck with recessed hot tub.

The regular spacing of the exposed timber trusses determine the layout of the walls. Structural insulated panels were craned on top of the trusses, and covered with a standing seam metal roof. Structural members and roofing material were selected to suit the huge 130 pound snow load.

A double soapstone fireplace faces the great room at the interior and the porch at the exterior. Throughout, the floor is a concrete slab on grade with embedded hot water tubing to provide radiant heat. The concrete was pigmented at the batch plant to provide integral, uniform color.
