Davidow / Ford Basement Remodel
The purpose of this project was to refinish an existing basement to include a playroom for children, home office, guest room and bath. Areas for laundry and storage were also important considerations.

The scheme devised by VELOCIPEDE architects oriented the new playroom toward the east and north for best exposure to windows and direct access to the backyard. The home office, which doubles as a guest room, was located on the north wall for light and egress.

The new bathroom makes efficient use of space with a corner shower and pedestal sink. The laundry was relocated and expanded to provide more room for sorting and folding of clothes. A storage room was captured by finishing out a partial crawlspace.

Existing basement
Low ceiling height was solved by exposing and sandblasting the existing fir joists. Adds an additional 7" of perceived head room and beautifies the space. The bathroom features a lively tile pattern to brighten the space. Low flow fixtures were installed.
A furring wall containing R-22 insulation was added at existing concrete foundation walls, creating a decorative shelf, finished in bamboo plywood.

Also, the existing concrete slab was covered with 1/2" rigid insulation underneath the finished flooring for thermal comfort.
